Advocacy/Tennis Advisory Committee

Ray Harrison Chairperson

Mission
The mission of the Hillsborough County Tennis Association Advocacy Committee is to further relationships among government, educational, and corporate entities toward the betterment, promotion, and development of tennis within Hillsborough County.

Government Relationships
  • City of Tampa Government Liaison: HCTA Should work to interact with City Administration’s PARD (Parks/Recreation Department). Because City of Tampa PARD could be face with severe budget shortfalls and ongoing cuts, HCTA has a large opportunity to help provide and support tennis programming with the City of Tampa in a variety of ways, which should be explored thoroughly. HCTA will work to build solid relationships with City Administration’s various departments that are concerned with land, with a goal of development of potential, future HCTA-managed, HCTA-owned, and/or HCTA-operated tennis facilities within the City of Tampa.
  • Hillsborough County Government Liaison: HCTA should work to interact with City Administration’s PARD (Parks/Recreation Department). HCTA needs to work to both raise awareness of the rapidly growing popularity of tennis and the need for good and plentiful tennis facilities to serve a growing tennis playing population. Similar to (and perhaps even more important than) potential City of Tampa relationships, HCTA will work to build solid relationships with Hillsborough County Administration’s various departments that are concerned with land (for the development of future HCTA-managed, HCTA-owned, and/or HCTA-operated tennis facilities.) Why? Simply, the County has much, much more land available than does the City of Tampa for such facilities. Additionally, the Economic Development unit in Hillsborough County is organized and aggressive. The HCTA needs to successfully “sell” tennis as a useful economic development tool for Hillsborough County (which, in fact, is a relatively easy “pitch” to make), the benefits to tennis and the tennis community could be extremely positive.
  • City of Plant City Government Liaison: PARD (Parks/Recs Department) – A very well run tennis program with which HCTA might successfully interact and with which HCTA personnel now have excellent relationships.
  • City of Temple Terrace Liaison: PARD (Parks/Recs Department) – Like Plant City, Temple Terrace has a well run tennis program with which HCTA might successfully interact; existing relationships are established.
